Mexican Hells Kitchen

Gibson (New York Area)·Dined on March 13, 2017Came here after seeing The Book of Mormon. I love my Mexican food, and appreciate the new direction that Hell's Kitchen's takes it. Most places that I find serve you traditional Mexican, but the best way Hell's Kitchen could be described is of a more upscale, “progressive” type Mexican cuisine, with the all the same traditional classics that you've grown to love. The food was itself was fantastic with generous portions, and I can highly recommend the guacamole trio and chilaquiles with steak.Tags: Romantic, Pre/post Theatre, Hot Spot, Creative Cuisine, Fun, Modern Decor, Good for a DateWas this review useful to you?Yes·No·Reportfood5ambience5service5value5

Mexican Hells Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen serves way-above-average what I call avant guard Mexican. Definitely not the usual nasty stuff most Mexican restaurants serve. We've tried more than half of the menu items and have never had a bad meal. Everything is tasty and well-seasoned. Cocktails are also good. Had the bread pudding for dessert, and it was pretty good. Not fabulous. Sat near the front, and the bar got pretty rowdy – so perhaps a table in the rear would be quieter. Their new location on 9th and 51st is a step up from the previous setting. All in all, we like Hell's Kitchen a lot. Give it a shot for different and good food.

Profile As he opens, closes, and relocates his various Clinton holdings, restaurateur John Dempsey continues to treat Ninth Avenue like his own personal Monopoly board. Having moved Vynl to spiffy new premises three blocks south, he opened El Centro in its place. An offshoot of Dempsey’s popular Hell’s Kitchen, and overseen by its chef’s brother, Eusebio Pareja, El Centro is dedicated to the increasingly trendy realm of Mexican street foods. Taco fans have their choice of hard- or soft-shelled varieties—plus a selection of posoles, enchiladas, chilaquiles, tamales, and empanadas. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

Andrew Cerda: Sister restaurant to the Tehuitzingo Deli , this place is known for its' delicious tacos, tortas and burritos. A solid quick and cheap Mexican gem in Hell's Kitchen.

At first glance, Tehuitzingo looks like nothing more than a Mexican grocery store. The façade doesn’t advertise anything but, and front area is cluttered with stacks of packaged tortillas, hot sauces, and a glass case full of tomatillos, cheeses, and cactus. But go in past the refrigerated cases of fruits, drinks, and beer, and you’ll find 14 stools pulled up to counters against both walls. Visible through a tiny window all the way in the back are the two women who run the small kitchen

CTfoodie (New York Area)·Dined on January 11, 2017This is the first restaurant review I have ever written. HK is truly extraordinary. Our meal was memorable, and I have been raving to friends ever since. The mixed seafood ceviche was gorgeous and even more delicious. The short rib tacos were heavenly, as was the grilled octopus. When I asked for something green that was not a salad, the answer was “sure”. The roasted brussel sprouts were the best Ive ever had. Mexican beers on draft were so tasty, and both Italian red wines were big and smooth. The price tag for all of this was also remarkable. It was one of the truly outstanding dining experiences of my very long life. Get there as fast as you can!Tags: Pre/post Theatre, Worth the Drive, Tapas, Outstanding Value, FunWas this review useful to you?Yes·No·Reportfood5ambience4service5value5
